1. Bud thinks this room used to be a girls room who is now dead because when he asked Miss Thomas that two little doors are locked or not she replied, “I don’t think they’re locked, Bud, there’s nothing in there but girl’s clothes and toys.
2. I don’t think that Herman E. Calloway is happy to have Bud at his home because at the bottom of page 179, Herman E. Calloway whispered to Bud so that Miss Thomas can’t here, “You’ve got the rest of them fooled, but not me. There’s something about you that I don’t like. I’m going to find out what your game is and believe you me, scamp, you’re going back where you belong.” Also, after Herman E. Calloway whispered to Bud, he walked out of the room and slammed the door, which shows me that Herman E. Calloway is not being nice to him and being so mean. Furthermore, when Bud woke up everyone said “Good morning, Bud.” except Herman E. Calloway.
3. Miss Thomas says this to Herman E. Calloway. I think what she is saying is that Herman E. Calloway will take care of any stray dog but to Bud he has no sympathy and kindness, which I could see that she is convincing him to be nice and kind to Bud. I think Herman E. Calloway thinks that Bud is a liar, who is trying to steal something from him and ran away one day.
4. On page 191 Steady Eddie asks Bud the question above because if the suitcase is not important to Bud, he would give his old alto saxophone case to Bud because if he is going to be travelling with his band it wouldn’t look too copacetic to Bud to be carrying that ratty old suitcase bag.
5. The reason why the band members give Bud the name “Sleepy Labone” is because Bud slept until after noon. Also, from the name Sleepy represents Bud that he slept too late and Labone is a French word for bone. (I think they call him Labone is because he looks too weak and skinny.) The band members said Labone instead of bone because French always makes things sound a lot classier.
